The issue of money laundering has become a critical concern for financial institutions globally. The complexity of financial systems and the increasing sophistication of financial crimes make it challenging for regulators to effectively detect and prevent money laundering activities. This research aims to explore the regulatory challenges faced by financial institutions in preventing money laundering, focusing on current regulatory frameworks, enforcement, and compliance strategies. The study utilizes a qualitative approach, reviewing relevant literature, interviewing experts, and analyzing case studies of financial institutions’ experiences. The findings reveal gaps in regulatory frameworks, inconsistencies in enforcement practices, and the growing need for technological innovations in anti-money laundering efforts. This study highlights the importance of cross-border cooperation, robust monitoring systems, and continuous regulatory adaptation to address the evolving methods of money laundering. Implications for policymakers and financial institutions are discussed, providing recommendations for improving regulatory frameworks and compliance practices in the fight against money laundering.
